The Imaginary forms

Singapore, 12 January – 15 January 2017

CUC Gallery is pleased to participate Art Stage Singapore 2017 with a presentation, ‘The imaginary forms’, of 4 Vietnamese artists Nguyen Trung, Nguyen Son, Lai Dieu Ha and Tulip Duong. The exhibition ‘The imaginary forms’ will be comprised of paintings and sculptures expressed in conceptually fresh abstract forms with a fine attunement to painterly details, constellated around various found surfaces and their treatment as compositional elements, surfaces and objects.

Nguyen Trung (b.1940) is the first senior abstract artist, who has influenced and inspired an entire generation of Vietnamese artists. He spent most of his life in Saigon (Hochiminh city now), witnessed the changes and developments of the city and country through many ups and downs.

Nguyen Son (b.1974) is one of the most prominent contemporary artists of Vietnam who was born in the peacetime and raised through the country’s reform and development after the war ended. Surreal techniques with lyrical uses of images and writings are some of his most recent discoveries.

Lai Dieu Ha (b.1976) has been noted for her impressive performance art. Since 2015 with her first solo exhibition as a visual artist, Ha has shown another side of well internalized performing techniques, in which her concepts and feminism ideal are well combined expressed in very special organic medium originated from Vietnam.

Tulip Duong (b.1959) is among very few female contemporary artists of Vietnam, who shows her perseverance and original perspective on the culture interchanges of the old and the new. She often uses French colonial or historical objects in her conceptual works with traditional medium methods (lacquer).
